Raleigh-GAC retain East Midlands Regional Champs trophy

Raleigh-GAC’s Australian criterium specialist Bernie Sulzberger pulled a fine solo win out of the bag at the East Midlands Regional Championship at Sutton Bonnington, Leicestershire on Sunday.

The course covered 16 laps of a fast and flat five mile route of B roads and lanes around Nottingham University’s agricultural campus. Bernie powered away just before the end of the race to wrestle the trophy away from fellow Raleigh-GAC rider Jamie Sparling, who won the trophy at the same event last year.

There were several more regional and national championships taking place over the weekend with Evan Oliphant second place at the Scottish Road Race Championships in Balfron, Stirlingshire being the pick of the bunch, as he was just pipped to the line in a two-man breakaway.

Elsewhere, Russell Hampton came 10th in the National 10 mile time trial in Cambridgeshire and Liam Holohan finished in the main bunch in the West Midlands Regional Championship in Bridgnorth, Shropshire.
